NATIONAL AIR TRANSPORT TRANSPORT FACILITATION COMMITTEE
KAAO participated in a week-long retreat held in Naivasha, convened by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (Kenya Civil Aviation Authority), focused on national air transport facilitation matters in its capacity within the National Air Transport Facilitation Committee (NAFTC). The retreat formed part of the preparatory engagements ahead of the upcoming 49th East African Community (East African Community) Facilitation of Air Transport (FAL) meeting scheduled for next week in Burundi.
Key issues raised during the retreat centered on strengthening facilitation and improving coordination among all relevant agencies involved in air transport operations. A particular emphasis was placed on the need to eliminate unnecessary delays through more streamlined inter-agency collaboration, clearer role definition, and improved operational efficiency at points of entry and exit.
The discussions also underscored the importance of aligning national facilitation frameworks with international standards, particularly the provisions of ICAO Annex 9 (Facilitation), a benchmark framework that guides Contracting States in simplifying and harmonizing border clearance formalities while ensuring efficient air transport movement.
