ICAO Annex 9 Passenger Facilitation Workshop
Passenger facilitation lies at the heart of modern aviation. As global travel rebounds and expectations evolve, ensuring seamless, dignified, and secure movement across borders is more critical than ever. ICAO Annex 9 provides the global standard for this, emphasizing efficiency, collaboration, and the protection of passenger rights, while safeguarding national and global interests.
In that spirit, a high-level 3-day workshop was held from 5th to 7th August, under the theme: “Enhancing Passenger Facilitation and Compliance with ICAO Annex 9 through Multi-Agency Coordination.”
Organized by the IOM – UN Migration in partnership with the Government of Kenya, and supported by the Directorate of Immigration Services (DIS), Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, International Air Transport Association (IATA), and International Civil Aviation Organization, the forum brought together key border and aviation actors to tackle the evolving challenges and opportunities in passenger processing.
Representing the association at the forum was Captain Mary Mukulu Kai, Board Member, who emphasized the importance of public–private collaboration in delivering value to the traveling public, balancing commercial imperatives with international obligations.
One thing is clear: Achieving world-class facilitation requires more than infrastructure; it demands coordination, trust, and a shared vision.
