KAAO Champions Review and Reform of AMEL Licensing Framework

On 9th August 2024, the Kenya Association of Air Operators (KAAO) convened a crucial meeting with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), alongside key members such as HELINT and Z. Boskovic Air Charters Ltd, to conduct a comprehensive review of the current Aircraft Maintenance Engineers License (AMEL) framework.

The session focused exclusively on assessing the effectiveness of the existing licensing system. Participants critically analyzed areas for improvement and proposed practical recommendations to enhance the framework in line with international best practices. Key issues discussed included the streamlining of licensing requirements, reducing procedural bottlenecks, and aligning Kenya’s standards with the evolving demands of the global aviation sector.

The meeting reinforced the need for a forward-looking AMEL structure that supports operational excellence, promotes high safety standards, and builds capacity within the engineering workforce. KAAO, representing the voice of Kenyan air operators, underscored the importance of a transparent, efficient, and globally recognized licensing regime to foster growth and innovation in the industry.

Through these collective efforts, KAAO continues to advocate for strategic reforms that will strengthen Kenya’s aviation ecosystem, ensuring the sector remains resilient, competitive, and future-ready.
